Can Cleaning Make You Happy?

Usually cleaning is referred to as one of the most unpleasant, and tiring domestic chores, but have you asked yourself this simple question: Can cleaning make you happy? Surprisingly, researches indicate that the answer is positive. An “inverse association between stress and housework” really exist, at least on paper.

Still, you don’t need scientist with fancy titles to assure you that a neat, clean, and de-cluttered house will improve your mood, but can you admit that grabbing the broom and sweeping the floor can make you happier? Personally, I find it hard to believe, but as they say – “different strokes for different folks”. To find out, I suggest you do a little experiment:

Instead of putting all your energy into figuring out how to postpone the inevitable deep cleaning of your home, or even how to squeeze hiring professional cleaners Putney in your budget, right after you finish reading this post, stand up, and get down to business.

Firstly, play some energizing music, and start dancing. While you are moving to the rhythm, grab the vacuum cleaner, and “dance with it”. It might be the “wrong way” to start cleaning, but if it feels right for you – who is to say you shouldn’t do it. Hello, dear cleaning lovers! I am Joanna and I’m happy to be able to share with you some of the latest news on Melbourne’s top events this summer. Special thanks to Margaret, for letting me reach you again through her wonderful blog.

This year, Melbourne will be hosting an amazing conference on Happiness and Its Causes for the first time. Complex topics like love, psychology, resilience and sandness will be discussed and traversed by renown professors and researchers.

  • Michael Leunig, a poet and artist who enjoys topics like philosophy and is an aspiring cartoonist
  • Dr Helen Fisher is a renowned anthropologist who develops in the sphere of romantic love and human emotions
  • Linda Lantieri is a specialist in emotional learning and resilience. She works with children who lost their parents in 9/11 and gives her best to help people overcome tragedy events.

The icing of the cake is going to be an emotionally and intellectually directed lection with Dalai Lama.

All of the specialists are going to share their thoughts, experiences and professional insights on human emotions. The topics which are going to be reflected on the conference cover an extremely wide range of subtopics about emotional and mental health. The questions will definitely be a lot, but I’m sure most of them will be answered through the conference.

My personal experience shows that the emotional state of a human being in not only related to the environment in which he is being raised and is growing, but it has a way bigger complexity. Each human has his own perception of the world. Some people crack and “explode” over simple daily tasks, family problems and domestic chores like cleaning, cooking and gardening, and there is definitely a lot this conference could help with.

You wake up and you feel, as if your vital force has been sucked out of you… You have no desire to get out of bed, yet you realise with a brutal clarity that you MUST… You feel more demotivated than ever to go to work, and still you force yourself to do it… Those are just a few of the reasons why hating Mondays is perfectly normal.

Why Monday is so Harsh on Us?

To be honest, for me Monday mornings are the worst! I believe it is due to the shock your entire systems goes through. From ultimate relaxation, sleeping in and just doing what you love, you are bound to wake up on the Monday morning and bump heads with reality… and it is never pleasant.

Since most of us are creatures of habit, we tend to get used to a certain regime and follow it, therefore, sometimes, it is difficult to sleep in during the weekend, as you have trained yourself to get up in time for work. Nevertheless, most of us wake up and then fall back asleep. Just when you have had two perfectly good days to get used to a couple of extra hours of sleep… BAM… Monday comes right back and makes you change your rhythm once again.

… and so the tedious cycle goes on and on …and you despise the first day of the week more and more..

How to Fight the “Monday Hatred”?

There are numerous way to battle the odd feeling of being displeased that the weekend has ended. You can either opt for the lazy perspective of having a perfectly calm (if somewhat boring) evening and go to bed early. Not only will you get the vital and oh-so-needed rest, but you will also be ready to jump-start your week. However, this solution is not that great as you will have to sacrifice a few perfectly good hours, you could otherwise spend with friends clubbing or even doing some housework – just because you can.

Speaking of chores, I strongly recommend delegating your cleaning duties to professional cleaners in Docklands. There is something utterly bothersome in spending your precious spare time doing housework – cleaning in particular. Even if you are doing it just for the sake of bragging to your colleagues that you didn’t have to lift a finger to dust or vacuum.

These soft and chewy M&M Cookies are the perfect choice of a dessert. They are quick and easy to cook, especially when you are feeling tired of working or cleaning.

In my opinion, it is very hard to find a quality cookie recipe. Once you find it, make sure you write it down on a safe place. It is a treasure you cannot afford to lose! So get a pen and note this one:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • one package of mini M&Ms

Directions:

  1. Mix the flour, salt, cornstarch and the baking soda in a bowl.
  2. In other large bowl, using a mixer, make a smooth paste from the butter and both types of sugar. Adjust the speed to medium and mix until pale and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  3. Set the mixer on low and add in egg and vanilla. Return the speed to medium and mix until well compounded.
  4. Turn the mixer back on low and add the dry mixture gradually until dough forms. Blend in M&Ms by hand. Put the dough into the refrigerator for at least 40 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking tray with parchment paper.
  5. Get the dough out of the fridge and form balls with the approximate size of a walnut. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until edges are just barely golden.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool for a couple of minutes on baking sheet before removing and placing on wire rack to finish cool.

I highly suggest a glass of milk or a hot cup of coffee with these!

Use the paper plunger to make 2 identical holes at the end of each card. Take the markers, and write something you love about your girlfriend/ wife at the back of each card. At the last one write something sweet, or romantic, or even a short poem – something that will make her drop everything and kiss you like the world depends on it.

2. Home town getaway

Every girl dreams of being taken away on a romantic trip somewhere far away from home. However, your budget can hardly sustain such a luxury but don’t despair there is a romantic, yet inexpensive, solution that will make you her hero. All you need to do is look up the interesting sights in your home town. You will be amazed at how many places you can visit, and at the entertaining activities you can share with her. The new term of home town getaway is staycation, and it won’t cost much. At the same time your girlfriend/ wife will be thrilled at the idea of leaving her home, and relaxing with her loved one, even if only for a couple of days. Nothing makes a woman happier than leaving her weekend chores like cooking and deep cleaning Brighton behind to spend some quality time with her partner. If you have mountains why not take her to a local hut, and spend the weekend hiking. You can even surprise her with a bouquet of wild flowers as opposed to the usual bunch from the near-by grocery store.

Warning! This idea is extra geeky! Take out your old Scrabble and get all the letters that spell your names, if you don’t have enough, ask friends and family to help with the cause. Next, you will need a picture frame. Glue the wooden pieces together to the cardboard of the frame. On the off chance that your names don’t share at least one letter, you can use an adjoining word like “LOVE”, “ETERNITY”, “ALWAYS” and so on. Once you have the centrepiece, you can use your imagination to decorate the rest of the cardboard with dried flowers, paper clippings, satin ribbons (although it might be too much), pictures of you and her together, or anything else you find appropriate. When you are all set, put the frame on, and wrap it up. In case the wooden Scrabble pieces are too thick for the holders to close, use some tape or glue to fix the cardboard on its place.
