Living Room Décor Ideas
Now that we have cleaned the living room, and the clutter has been chased away, it is high time to take a look around and see what needs improving in terms of interior design. The new year has come, and the trends have taken an interesting turn, so why not change a few things to keep the “face” of your home in stride with the latest home décor fashion.
When speaking of living room décor, you need to have one thing straight, it is all about functionality. The room needs to reflect your personal style and preferences… once you enter it it must feel like home, not like a museum where you are afraid to touch anything as you might stain it, wrinkle it or ruin the entire setting by misplacing one single object. In 2013, the flashy displays are left in the history, leaving the comfort and homely warmth dictate the fashion.
This year the hottest colours are not bright and bold, they are muted, simple pastels that have a calming effect on the eye. However, they are by far not boring as one might initially suggest, as interior designers have outdone themselves in coming up with intricate combinations of stripes, patterns, prints and textures to surprise even the most demanding home owners. Here are my personal favourite living room décor ideas for 2013:
Combining Patterns & Print
The key to success is more than simple – use a simple colour scheme in pastel hues to unite the patterns and prints in a fascinating manner. To make it even more appealing, bet on clean, sharp lines to complete the display.
Brown is no Longer Boring
Do you remember your grandmother’s living room – those muted dull browns, combined with outrageous flower patterns? No, this is not back in fashion! On the contrary, brown has been rediscovered – choose caramel brown, and spice it up with bright whites and delicate golden accents, and you will have a sensible (at least as far as cleaning is concerned), yet trendy living room décor.
Use Floral Accents
If you don’t want to repaint the entire room, you can dazzle your visitors by using floral patterns in a completely unexpected way. Floral accents are once again popular as long as they are combined with bright, light colours like beige, cream or white. A colourful rug, for instance, and a re-upholstered armchair might be just what your living room needs. Furthermore, according to Cleaners at Kensington, it is fairly easy to keep a carpet in floral patterns clean, or at least the stains don’t pop out as much!
Pastels, Pastels, Pastels… with a Twist
As previously mentioned pastels are the most desired colours for a living room, but here is where the catch lies: Combine pastels with a pop of bright colour to get that “wow”-effect. To make sure it looks well, instead of ridiculous (which is a major possibility, if not done right), you ought to run the pop colour at least in two or three features in the living room. Still, don’t get carried away, after all it is called pastels with a twist, not a bright-colour-room with pastel features!
